New Hire Spotlight: Chance Black

Say hello to Chance Black, NewStream’s accounting manager. Chance joined our company in July, and we’re thrilled to have him aboard. Learn more about Chance and his new role in the Q&A below.
Provide a brief history of your work and educational history.
I bounced around between private, government, and public accounting since I graduated SBU in 2020 (worst time to graduate lol). Before NSE, I was doing taxes all day everyday and was not very happy with that. I started looking for accounting roles in manufacturing firms because I grew up in the manufacturing and kitting business and have a deep interest in it.
Describe your new role?
I’m the accounting manager, so I’m responsible for the accounting team and making sure the financials of the company are well regulated and regularly given out for all employees owners!
What has been your favorite thing about working at NewStream so far?
It’s easier going here than at my last position, and I have been treated better by those above my position. It really feels like everyone is working together here.
Has there been anything surprising or unexpected about NewStream?
I’m surprised by the amount of trust and investment the company has in each worker. From sharing the financials to the constant lunch and learns, the company feels like its truly invested in seeing you grow both at work and personally!
Is there any work-related project you’re particularly excited about? Or is there a new skill you’re excited to learn?
I’m still new enough that everything is exciting and interesting. I have a general idea of what’s going on, but this position is much different than those I’ve had before. I’m just excited to be useful and helpful to the company.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
If you don’t do it who will?
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a big outdoor and exercise guy. You will find me at the gym most days after work or working on my home, which I’m remodeling and fixing up. On weekends you can find me and my fiancé line and swing dancing at local honky-tonks or spending all weekend on the lake.
What’s your guilty pleasure snack or dessert?
Cheesecake or red velvet cake and brownies.
Where’s the number one place on your travel bucket list?
I’ve always wanted to visit Russia or Israel.
Do you have a nickname? If so, what’s the story behind it?
Growing up my brother had a speech impediment so for some reason he also called me “Ting.” Not even remotely close to my name, but that’s what he called me until he grew out of the speech impediment.
What’s a surprising or interesting fact about you?
Most people are surprised to learn I was home schooled from kindergarten till I graduated high school.
What’s a personal goal you are working towards?
I’ve been running most mornings and I’m trying to get up to a 5k every morning. (I’m currently averaging about 2.5 miles, so I’m getting close!)
If you could have dinner with any three people (living or dead), who would they be?
Jesus, Buzz Aldrin, and my great, great grandpa
Do you have any hidden talents?
I have been told I have a great singing voice by a few people.
Schuyler Dalenberg
